2002 ford explorer limited v8 brakes

I bought my explorer off a friend and ever since I've gotten it, the brakes in "oh sh*t" moment don't work, for example if im driving down a street going 20mph and a kid runs out into the street no matter how hard i hit my breaks my tires wont lock up. I can be driving 45 completely slam the brakes an ill stop casualy, not fast at all. kind of feels like the calipers aren't puting enough pressure behind the pads clamping down on the rotors.

check your rotors and pads. bleed your brakes. its most likely a combination of both
