I have a 2002 XLT that came with the premium CD & Tape combo. I'm looking to replace but can't figure exactly how to disassemble the dash to get to it. Unfortunately, my head unit isn't the one with the 4 holes (two on each side of the head unit). I think that black plastic dash that surrounds the head unit, two vents, and heating/cooling has to come off. Not sure exactly how to proceed. Any suggestions??

there should be two bolts under the middle lip in the dash cover that you described? Undo these bolts and then just pull the housing that you described off. This is how it was for my 02 sport so I'm guessing it would be the same for you.

Hey Dino, I will snap some pics later today on the removal and email them to you or post them here if you like.

Thanks much!!! I really appreciate it.. Posting them here or just emailing them to me (dino@paulesc.com) is fine. Thanks again.

Sent the pics Dino, let me know if you get them and how they turned out. Good luck.:D

While I think I can figure it out from what you two have said, someone ought to put the pics up here if they're helpful. I just bought an '02 and am needing to get behind the HU to install a LOC to go to another HU as an AUX input (I'm just going to be using the factory HU for the changer basically).

Anyhow, having the pics up here for people needing to learn this would be great.

02 X HU removal.........

I'll work on it.
