2002 Mercury Mountaineer
Been quite a while since I last posted. Here's the situation. I have 2002 mercury mountaineer 4.6l AWD. The tranny likes to flare when shifting from second to third and third to fourth. It also seems to downshift hard when coming to a stop. Also if I'm at a stoplight for a while and then i hit the gas to accelerate, there are time where I will have hardly any power and the engine revs high and then the team my seems to slowly get power and pick up speed. I don't have my O/D light flashing and I put in a brand new shift solenoid pack, vehicle speed sensor, and even the throttle position sensor and new filter for the tranny. I got no codes from the computer other than my front passenger side abs sensor is out. I'm at a loss here. Anyone know if there's a sensor I missed or what might be the issue? Help!!!

Worn servo bores would be my guess.

Check band adjustments. I have read a couple places to set it to 1.5 turns. In my case I also needed the servo Repair kit. I just installed on my 02 and it took care of a shift flare and slippage when transmission fluid was warm.
Ymmv. Good luck

Is it fairly easy to do that kit? How much did it cost?
