2002 Front axle and pinion seal leak

Hey everyone, I have a 2002 4x4 that was just taken in for an oil change and the ford guy said I had a slight leak on my front axle seal. He priced it at $350, and said it was ok now but would need to be done soon. He also said I have a leak on my front pinion seal. I am trying to get some info on this, what exatly it is...Can anyone help? I have also heard that there is a newer seal that would seal better than the old one...

I went to buy one this weekend 2004 with 23K and has the same problem, I'm a little hesitant to buyed, because Im not sure if i will have to end up fixing it again from my own pocket, they are asking 14999 and it is in very good shape.
