The automatic on my 2002 Sport Trac has suddenly developed a problem where it takes a long time to go into Drive then kicks in hard. Once it's going forward it is fine until turned off.

The overdrive light is not blinking. Check engine light is not on.

I just got done with a fluid drain filter change and fill, put a bottle of Lucas in too. No change. :( Also doing a slight shuddering/jerking going forward now.

(My 1997 Taurus started doing the same, filter change and a bottle of Lucas got it working great.)

It sounds like you are having problems with the forward drum hydraulic circuit. The sealing rings on the forward drum are know to wear out or fail, this will cause what you are experiencing. Obviously the only way to get to the forward drum is to remove the tranny and take it apart.

It's parked out back, awaiting a complete drivetrain swap from a 1998 Mountaineer.
