Can anyone tell me how to remove the head rests from the rear seats of my 2002 Explorer XLS. I want to remove the entire head rest and height adjustment rods. They do not just pop off if you pull up hard. There must be some sort of retaining clip/spring to depress to release the whole thing. Only front and rear seats no third row. Thanks in advance.

If you are talking about the type shown in the picture bellow, I don't believe removal is possible

Not sure if the four door rear headrests are similar to the ST. I tried removing the clips from the top using a small "hook" without
rolling the rear seat covers up. Ended up pulling the covers up and removing the clips. Clip is shown in the second (appears silver)
and third pics (removed). For safety, headrests can be replaced when passengers are in the rear seats. Improves rear visibility,
at least for 5' 6" me in the ST.
