I recently bought a used 02 xlt. First explorer that I have owned and so far
I like it.

I have two issues with the a/c. First one is that at any setting the front a/c blows colder out the drivers vents than the passenger vents.

Secondly, when I engage the rear air. I hear a constant clicking sound coming from the area above the rear wheel where the rear zone items are mounted. It did not do this when I bought it, and I have not used the rear air since the noise started.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

I had the exact same problem your describing in the trunk area from the rear a/c. In the left side of the cargo area, there is like a compressor or a/c condenser and it kept clicking. I took it to the dealer they fixed it under warranty. And when you take it in tell them its not cold and to add freon.

Also with concern to the front vent issue, it blows cold evenly out both sides if I put the a/c to MAX.

NerdBoy666, Do you know what item they replaced to fix that rear a/c issue?

Thanks for the help,

E.S.

You can't just add more freon to make it colder -- there is a capitacity rating for the a/c system. Probably somewhere around 1.5-2 lbs!
