Help! My transmission is not working correctly.
It started with hard shifting. Then, it would not slip into reverse. As I was driving it to the transmission shop, it would not shift into 3rd gear. The engine would wind out pretty high. Then, I would let off the gas, and it would shift into gear. The transmission shop said they would charge me $1400.00 to take apart the transmission to determine what was wrong with it, and then apply it to the cost of fixing the transmission. I am broke, so I can't afford that. Right now, the transmission takes a long while to get into gear, and when it does, it shifts hard. When I put it into reverse and neutral, there is a whining sound. I am out of warranty by 5,000 miles.
A friend of mine says we can rebuild it. But I don't know what needs to be done. Can anyone help?
