Ford Motor Company will continue to boost the performance image of their F150 truck line by adding another truck with a SuperCharged engine to their lineup.

The Roush Technologies Facility on Southfield in Allen Park, Michigan is currently working on a 5.4L SuperCharged engine for Team F150's 2003 Harley Davidson program.

The '03 Harley will use the F150's "Lightning" engine, except Roush will de-tune the engine to deliver approximately 20 horsepower less than the Lightning.

What would be the point to de-tune and then supercharge an engine so it produces less HP then the same model engine without the charger? Isn't the purpose of supercharging to increase HP?

I'm gonna put a 5" lift in my truck but then drop it 1" :D
Maybe they think no one will buy the Lightnings then

I think both trucks are supercharged... but I don't see why they'd have less power in the HD edition. Maybe they don't want those bikers getting outta hand?!

The Lightning is already supercharged. The whole point of detuning the supercharged H-D F150 engine is so that the Lightning is still the "Top Dog" as far as HP and performance goes. To give both trucks the same engine would affect the sales and the mystique of both. The Lightning is less expensive than the H-D (at least around here) and many people want the performace of the Lightning without all the pizzaz and flash of the H-D. Both are very nice trucks. Both are specialty niche vehicles that are much more valuable as marketing tools than as profit makers. Both of these trucks draw people in off the street to look at them. Probably most of the people who go to the dealer to look at them end up buying (if they buy) a regular F150 or a Ranger. The average dealer around here that has Lightnings or H-D's on the lot may have two or three of each but may also have a hundred or so F150's on the lot. These two trucks are the shiny paper. The other trucks are what's really in the box.
