2003 Lariat Super Crew "Husker Larry"

Sometimes I thing the insurance pays it off and the least damaged ones, the employees buy. Someone hit my Jeep back in 2017 and the other guys insurance really wanted to salvage it even though it was just an axle it needed. They seemed extremely shocked I took the money and fixed it. What I didn't tell them is that I already had all the replacement parts cause I was swapping in a different axle.
Insurance companies can be really ignorant at times. When I drove through water with my Tbird and broke a rod, the insurance company agreed to pay for the damages. I got a quote for a salvage engine and said I'd install it. They said we can't do that, you need a quote from an established shop. So, I went to a shop owned/operated by a friend of mine and he gave me a quote for a rebuilt long block, plus installation. The quote was much higher, but the insurance co. said "OK" and wrote me a check. I had enough to buy the salvage engine, a set of PI heads, and multiple other upgrades.

They are ignorant when it comes to repairs but they know how to raise rates really well.

Well, no more ability to play cassette tapes.

Larry got a new radio today, to enable rear camera more than any other reason.

Turns out the hole in the dash wasn't quite double din size. Priced dash kits and decided to cut first. If I can't live with it I'll get the dash insert. Didn't turn out too bad. Going to try to get camera installed tomorrow.

It's amazing the world of a difference a good radio makes.

That looks great! Does it have android auto or whatever the IPhone equivalent is? I've been aching to get one for Clifford.

Haven't used those features yet, but it's supposed to.
So far I am amazed at the features. The sound is ok, not going to lie you'll need more power for thumping , but it does have better sound than factory. Probably because of the equalizer tone adjustments.

I scored some image dynamics ctx- 57 5x7 speakers and put them into the front doors.
While that was much improvement, I still desire more bass so started trying for good subwoofer, amp deals.
Upon this distraction..
I won this set of made in USA russound architectural in wall speakers. 44 bux shipped.

I see component speakers.

After dis assembly , I mounted the tweeter and swivel base into the upper door panel. The 6.5 fit snug into a 5x7 to 6.5 adapter which also gave magnet clearance. It's a huge magnet.
The crossover is completely badass and got mounted using vhb tape to the door panel, in view thru the speaker slots. Ultra cool imo

The door panels hold them snug.

Woofer visible thru slots also

Not completely happy with tweeter mount. I plan on a metal outer triangle shaped metal piece with Allen screws. But it is this now. I was able to use the tweeter swivel cup, so, the tweet is direct able.

These. Sound. Excellent.

The ctx-57 s went to rear doors.

I then found a broken but I fixed it image dynamics amplifier, 75 bux plus a new rca jack and transistor grease

And, under seat down firing sealed Image Dynamics IDQ 12" 4ohm dual voice coil subwoofers. Still working the box over for rigidity,

I admire your creativity!

Over the course of the last 4 days I've been rolling Rust-Oleum brand bed liner into the carpeted box. 3 quarts later I have a nice river type finish without the grit of herculiner. 3 quarts soaked through the carpet added at least 1/4" to the thickness of the box. Kinda like fiberglass but more like linerglass. I'll caliper it when cured. About 5 days. Then I'm going to roll on Rust-Oleum oil based grey engine enamel , got a quart, to match interior. Unless I shouldn't???

Since this is a down firing box, what you see in bottom pic is under seat reveal panel

You mentioned herculiner and the word hootus comes to mind.

It's hard to think of anything else when using bed liner.
