I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport, I am the original owner. I have 157,000 miles on the transmission before the OD light started to blink. It started intermittently and then a few months later, the light became constantly blinking. No check engine light though. I had my mechanics checked out the transmission. He found the transmission piston damaged. He replaced the piston, flushed the transmission, changed the filter. During the first couple of days, the OD light still would come on/off intermittently, after driving the car for a few days, the problem was cleared. My mechanics checked out the solenoid pack and determined it was not the problem. My mechanics is a transmission specialist. He could rebuild transmission. In summary, transmission OD light blinking could mean a lot of different problems within the transmission itself. A good transmission specialist could service the transmission without the expanse of replacing the transmission. The cost would be significantly lower... in $750.00 range.
