Hello everyone,
This is my 1st post so I apologize for any errors I might make. I had my 2003 Explorer towed to a local mechanic shop after my son said he heard a "ticking" sound. I assumed it was lifters but the mechanic said after his inspection that it was the rear timing chain and it would be approximately $2300 to fix it or I could replace the engine for around $2000, I said let's go with the new engine as the original one had almost 180,000 miles on it. Now he says he can't find a "decent" engine for less than $1500 and it will be over $2800 with labor.
I feel like I'm being overcharged here based on what others have posted here. I'm in the Orlando area and would really appreciate some advice here.
Thanks,
JackW9653
