I have a 2004 4WD Ranger that needs lower ball joints replaced. Does anyone know if I will need a ball joint press or will they just pop out. Also will i need to remove anything else to get to the ball joints such as the tie rods. I'd love any other advice as well. Thanks
The toughest part is to remove the old ball joints. You can rent or borrow the tools from your local Auto Zone or Kragen to remove it. As for install, I've heard guys freeze it in the freezer while taking the old one off. I just press it on and used the weight of the vehicle to push it on and tap it with a hammer. The install take about 2 hours on both side.
