First post guys. Been searching around reading different things. thanks for all the information here.
History with Explorer' started as a water pump pump issue. Replaced water pump soon as new water pump went on on the first start the crank damper put came apart. No biggie quick Fix took care of that.
My mistake left a top radiator clamp loose after doing the damper.(brain fart)
Needless to say wife took the car blew the hose off overheated the car. Has the car towed home. See that it was the top hose came off. Put it back together and car now runs rough. Granted the top end was sprayed when it overheated. Problem 2 car is overheating which it did not do after I replaced the water pump. Coolant smells like fuel and the oil is milky. Yup popped head gasket. Replaced head gaskets (what a freaking process that was with the sohc. (sorry I am an LS guy.) I don't know who`s bright idea it was to install a timing chain against a firewall!!!
Note; Scanner is not tossing me any codes for a good direction...
Note; The scanner is throwing me no codes. Don't know how a car can run this rough at idle and not toss a code?
So its all back together. No more milky oil. Still runs rough at idle. In park will not rev above 3K. Take it for a ride and it rides decent. Has no problems going up to 5Krpm. Why will it not go above 3K when in park or neutral but on the road not have a problem going to 5K.
I don't mind dumping time into the truck. I don't want to dump tons of money into the car. We just purchased her a new ford fusion for some gas savings but wanted to keep the explorer around for winter and to have a 4wd vehicle as a spare. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks fellows.
