2005 Explorer 4.6 V8 Hose / Valve ID?

Hey guys,

The intake manifold on my 2005 V8 Explorer was recently replaced (local shop, not a dealer). When I got it back, it started leaking antifreeze from somewhere new (vs before the repair)...

Took it back to the shop, looks like they replaced the hose and clamps, but installed a copper tubing connector instead of a Ford part that was there previously.

I can't read all the numbers from the pic, but it looks (at least partially) like 020-900T-21H.

Of course, I can't find that number on any search, nor is there an obvious part showing up on a diagram search.

What is that part? Is it a valve with any particularly important function?

Truck runs fine now, and doesn't leak, BTW. It is ridiculous to have that extra joint there, of course.

I looked at mine on the 2004 and the part number is long gone, but I did notice there's an arrow pointing one-way.

The new one appears to be bi-directional, so I wonder how important that direction control was.
 






Thanks, I forgot to follow up here. I spoke to the shop owner, he said that there wasn't a replacement part for it, other than replacing that entire heater hose assembly. He felt that was unnecessary, as that part didn't appear to be a valve of any kind.

No leaks, so I'm happy.

Looking at my "early model" 2002, the tag has 3 lines of numbers. I don't know what that part does, but maybe you can get one out of a wrecking yard, if you need it.
Line 1: 30-9499
Line 2: H43-1006-020
Line 3: 0103 01

Also, since you had someone else do it -- a fun thing about manifold replacement is the area at the passenger rear of the manifold, by the firewall. There is a connection piece that some models use and others do not (it's vertical). You might have a hose coming out of the manifold, or you might see a rubber cap with a cheap hose clamp. If you have that cap, you should replace it, and replace the hose clamp. There are a lot of write ups on here about that. If it's not done properly, that cheap cap can come flying off, and coolant will go everywhere. You can picture back if there's any questions. And again, mine is an early model 2002, but I don't think that will make a difference on these issues.

Likely was a reducer/restrictor which is not uncommon in heater hoses and sometimes the core itself with a rubber plug with hole. It slows the flow of coolant through the heater core for better heat transfer. Same principle to running an engine without a thermostat which will usually run hotter because flow of coolant through radiator is so fast it does not give radiator time to shed the heat.
