Hello new to forum. I have 2005 explorer limited 2wd 4.6l W code . Problem started about 140k miles bought used at 139k seemed in good shape all over. While driving alert bell came on checked oil gage on zero for about 6 seconds then back to normal. Drove 5 miles and did it again. Changed oil sending unit, put another oil pressure gage in along with factory gage. The gage indicates warm running pressure at idle 6 lbs. using Mobil 1 15w-50 synthetic oil and motocraft filter . when rpm's go up the pressure increases about 10 lbs per thousand. Recently oil pressure started to drop to 3-4 lbs with 10w40 oil.
Had mechanic friend check it out took off valve covers and checked timing chain/ oil pump stated someone been in here before and did poor job broke bolts valve cover, new gasket on one side of timing chain cover old one on other. He suggests replacing engine. He seems to think any 4.6 W code engine will fit. I told him only engines that are listed are from 03-05 explorer , mountaineer.
Now for the main reason for this post can any 4.6l W engine work if what needs to be done. Will another 4.6l W from 03-05 have same problem at 140-170k miles?

Thanks , hope post not too long any feed back will be greatly appreciated
