Posting for my girlfriend.

She has a 05 Mountaineer, V6 with ~81k miles. Purchased used about 15k ago. Recently we have been seeing oil drops in our driveway. I got under the car and sure enough we have some fresh oil.

Steps so far:

1. Spray area down good with brake cleaner. She drives a lot so I was hoping to clean the affected area and then see if I could get a better picture of where the leak was coming from

2. I do her oil changes so I checked drain plug as well as oil filter. Both are tight and dry as they should be. I have determined that this not the location of the oil leak.

3. Oil leak is definitely coming from front, lower half of the engine. Starts roughly around the pan gasket.

Conclusions:

1. I either want to say it is the timing cover gasket or front crank shaft seal.

Advice:

I'm looking for advice. Is the front crankshaft seal something that goes bad? What could cause this? Could it be the oil pan gasket? What other things should I be looking for on the very front lower half of the v6 motor?
