Hi everyone,
I own a 2006 Explorer with a 4.0 V6 and 180,000 km on it. It recently stopped working in the reverse gear--it mainly slips/revs, at least when in 4 high/auto, grabbing/moving only slightly, even when on a level spot; a person with average strength could hold it back. When shifted into 4 low, though, it actually moves somewhat, not grabbing positively enough to trust with passengers in the vehicle, but will reverse on even a slight incline (with some slip/chatter). All other gears shift smoothly and flawlessly (taken for 100 km/h road test in 4 auto).
Would these details point to a reverse servo problem or a loose/broken reverse band? I read that the same band is used for reverse and 4 low, so I'm leaning more towards a reverse servo problem ...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Going forward (only) in Canada
