Several times lately while starting my Explorer on cold, frosty Alaskan mornings, I get various "door ajar" indications on the console even though every door is shut and latched. Later, when driving above 20mph and with the heat running, the doors will suddenly lock and the "door ajar" indicator goes out. I cannot find any of the door jamb-type switches that normally are used to indicate when a door is opened, so where is this signal being fed from? Is it in the lock mechanism itself?

Anything that I can lubricate or grease to prevent this?

The cold mornings here in the mtns of Virginia does that to mine too.

Just a suggestion, have you tried turning off the "Auto Lock" feature in your HUD Menu in your gauge panel? To see if the warning persists past 20mph.

Not sure how auto lock would affect the indication that the doors are ajar, when they aren't? Is the circuit linked somewhere?

I don't know if this is related or not. But in my 94 explorer I had the same problem. It ended up being a wire inside of the flex tube boot that covers the harness that runs from the inside of your vehicle, to inside of the door itself. I removed the rubber boot and found 2 severed wires. I just isolated them, re-soldered, shrink tubed them and my indicator went out.

Unfortunately this is a common problem with Fords. The switch is inside the door and attaches to the locking mechanism. There is controversy on which lubricant to spray in the door locking mechanism so do some research. I used wd40 on my drivers side door, I sprayed it all around the door locking mechanism in hopes that it would find its way. Not sure if it really helped or if it stopped coming on because it got out of the high 30's here in FL. Just a little warmer than Alaska. YouTube has a few videos on this.
