Am I the only one that is dealing with the most annoying feature with the nav system on my '06 Explorer? When I am driving, majority of the features in the system are disabled, which is really annoying. Anyone know how I can disable this?

I know of no way possible on the factory system to do that. Now, before a mod jumps in here and closes this thread for "illegal" activity, I remind you that enabling these features while in motion is NOT illegal. My wife's Acura MDX has them all enabled right from the factory. It's a company position...not a legal matter.

I would be interested if anyone has ever figured a way to accomplish this. But I'm afraid it's a software issue...not a hardware issue like may aftermarket units are.

(a) I have this disabled on my Kenwood. But, I also admit that while driving, I have been less than attentive while making a change.

(b) We won't close it because it's illegal. We'll close it when it possibly will expose the forum to a negligence claim--i.e., some genius disables it and, while drinking their Starbucks and trying to reprogram a route, puts their car into the local farmer's market. Farmer sues driver, who impleads Ford, who defends on the lockout feature, and who points a finger at the folks/group who showed idiot driver how to disable it.

Not saying you folks are in the aforementioned group. But, am saying that all it takes is for one to ruin the day.

(c) As for bypassing the system, contact your local audio shop. Most units have a standard way of recognizing motion, and if they're willing to take the heat, they'll tell you. (Yes--this is a CYA moment.)

Agreed Flounder. My AVIC Pioneer units are bypassed. Now, that enables DVD's to be watched from the driver's seat. That IS illegal in many states. (not all) And very stupid too. (kind of like using your cell phone and texting while driving) But the Acura allows all navigation functions right from the factory. That was one reason we bought it.

I don't appreciate being babysat ...

I have friends with these systems in their cars and they have full function while the car is in motion. Did Ford ever consider that someone might be sitting in the passenger seat? Maybe that person could be the person wanting to make changes and enter information? We just got back from a 2000 mile drive and it was very frustrating to have to stop the car completely every time we wanted to enter an address/waypoint. What a waste of time. Neat idea, but I know how to take care of myself. :(

I wondered that myself while using my garmin! how to tell the dude inside that I have a passenger and that person is the one trying to make the changes, not me! it really is anoying having to fully stop to change the route...

You know, the vehicle knows if someone is sitting in the passenger seat. Maybe Ford could use that sensor to enable the features. Nah...c'mon Ford. Just enable them like others do and be done with it. (it already cost you a new Lincoln sale...and you need all those you can get)
