2006 Eddie Bauer
Hello to all you explorer owners!
Glad to find a forum with a wealth of information.
I have owned an Explorer Sport since 96.I loved it.
Thought it was time for a change,so I sold it and bought a 2006 Eddie Bauer V6.
The owner did not have the owners card or owners manual and never used the keyless entry. Now without the factory preset code.I can"t use it either.
Does anyone know where the module for the keyless system is located on this 06? I remember that it was located in the rear quarter panel on my 96 not no luck on this one.

That's a great link, however we need to know about the 06 and up models. That link is for the last generation.

another option is to go to a dealer and have them look it up for ya

The computer module is located behind the second row seat, passenger side, down and to the right of the seat belt. It looks like a silver external hard drive.

The basic process of getting to it is:
1) Open rear passenger door and pull away the weather stripping for the side near the seat belt.
2) Pop off the plastic piece that the seat belt feeds into near the shoulder completely. Just a few clips to pop out.
3) The next piece you need to pull away, but not remove totally, is the long plastic piece that runs back thru your trunk. If you pop off a few of the clips you should be able to see the face of the module.

Just a warning, after i did this about three times to check and recheck, there was no five-digit code on my module. Everything had letters in it, or was more than 5 digits. Eventually I gave up and went to the dealership bc i needed another part anyway. They told me they were going to charge me for labor, but never did.

Thanks for the reply;
I did the same procedure three times and there is nothing around the bottom of the seat belt but chassis.
I have all but given up trying to find this module
John

I have an 06 and the same issue... the only way to get the number is the dealer.... believe me I tried every site you could possibly think existed on the web.... hopefully they won't charge you to get the code!!!

Keeyless Entry Code

Thread is old, however I now know where the module for the 2006 EB is loacated. It is located behind the SSR air bag above the glove box. To get to the box, you will have to remove the Air bag to see the module. Can be done, but tricky. If I had to do it again, I would pay the dealer to retreive the code for me.

Where does this go? It was in the glove box of my 2006 Eddie Bauer and I want to get the keyless entry working. I think the previous owner installed an aftermarket alarm so he disabled the factory one by taking out this. I also have been trying to find the keyless entry code and have torn the whole back out, both sides, trying to find the silver module and the code. It isn't there. I looked where everyone says it is, but no luck. Any other ideas as opposed to going to the dealer? Thanks.

Another Way!

After many days searching the Net and opening up panels on my explorer I was ready to bite the bullet and pay the dealer for the factory code. When I came across this post...

http://everything2.com/title/Weak+security+in+our+daily+lives

This explains how there really are not that many codes (3125) and how the sequence below minimizes the number of key presses. Using this table I was able to find the correct code for my explorer in about 25 minutes.

The procedure was as follows:
1) Lock the car doors
2) Begin entering the numbers in the sequence below
3) When the keypad starts flashing (Anti scan feature is activated after 35 numbers) I would unlock and relock the door (resets anti scan) then backup 5 numbers from where I left off and continue entering numbers.
4) Eventually the door unlocked for me (found the code)
5) The first two codes I found however were user codes not the "factory" code. So you need to test the code using the programming procedure in your user manual.

Happy code hunting...

Nice find and thanks for making my eyes bug out of my head looking for my code.  It is in that mess though.

Interesting!

I found my code there too. Used the "find" function, so my eyes are still ok.

Keyless entry code

I did not get mine either when I bought my '06. I stopped at the ford dealer and they gae it to me - FREE. They also told me how Icould add a personalized number to use and offered to help me if I wanted to do it then.

according to the manual i have access to:
Each vehicle equipped with an RKE keypad is programmed with a 5-digit entry code. This code is provided to the customer through a wallet card in the owner literature package. In addition, this code is available through a diagnostic tool and is also printed on the SJB label. When entering codes each digit must be entered within 5 seconds of the previous button press.

SJB removal:
CAUTION: The steps included in the SJB removal and installation procedure are critical to restoring the vehicle security and tire pressure monitoring systems to normal operation. A new SJB is delivered in manufacturing mode with 6 pre-set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the tire pressure monitoring system. The presence of these DTCs requires the installation procedures be followed in order to clear the DTCs and enable normal SJB operations.

CAUTION: Prior to the removal of the SJB, it is necessary to upload the module configuration information to the diagnostic tool. This information must be downloaded to the new SJB after installation. For additional information, refer to Section 418-01 .

Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .
Remove the transmission selector lever. For additional information, refer to Section 307-05 .
NOTE: Position the front wheels straight forward before removing the ignition key.

Remove the ignition key from the lock cylinder locking the steering wheel in place.
Remove the 2 upper instrument panel bolt covers and bolts.
Remove the 4 bolts, 4 nuts and the 2 instrument panel center braces
Position the RH door weather seal aside.
Remove the RH instrument panel side finish panel.
Loosen the RH instrument panel side mount bolts 13 mm (0.51 in).
Disconnect the accelerator pedal electrical connector.
Disconnect the harness locator at the front of the SJB.
Remove the 2 screws and the steering column cover panel.
CAUTION: Secure the steering wheel to prevent damage to the clock spring assembly.

Remove the shaft-to-steering column bolt and separate the steering column shaft from the steering column.

Keyless Entry Code

This seems to be a universal problem with used Explorers. I had the same problem no default code available. I researched it and was told that the code was under the dash on the drivers side. I looked but could not find it, even had a friend who is more limber crawl under dash without success. I contacted a locksmith who had a reader and was able to pull the code from the module. I was lucky all he charged me was $ 20.00 and even threw in a keyless remote.I was afraid to even go to the dealer, I didn't know what they would have charged me. Good Luck hope you find a reasonable locksmith with these capabilities.

The code does not exist on any equipment. Im trying to save you the trouble, b/c if checked them all. Gonna have to either pay up to get the diagnostic results w/ the code, or try the code sequence above. Those are really the only 2 ways

Ford stopped labeling the code w/ the newer models

Not true, the code IS located on the SJB,

2007, mecury mountaineer, ford explorer, door keyless entry code is located on the fuse panel under driver side dashboard, it is called SJB smart junction box, it is a 5 digit code printed about 1 inch from the bottom of the fuse block, you can not see the number off hand because it faces the metal frame of the car. stick your cell phone between the car and the fuse panel and start taking pictures! here is a picture.

it is located on the smart junction box (sjb)

I used my camera like this to get the code printed on the sticker. (Note this is just an example; this explorer did not have a keypad option so there is no 5 digit code on this sticker but it would be there if it did)

here is another picture on an 07, I think after 07 they went to the sticker method.

this picture was taken again near the e-brake pedal. I blured out the rest of the code.
