Had 2007 Eddie Bauer Explorer checked out today. Mechanic said left front axle & right rear axle seals are leaking & must be replaced. Vehicle has 83,000 miles & only regular maintenance until now. What would be the approx. cost from a ford dealer ? Is this normal wear & tear ? Look forward to your reply. Thanking you in advance !

My rear axle seal at the Diff was leaking. Had a independent mechanic fix it for around $130-150.
Like the other post, use the Ford parts.

Dealer will be more.

Seems a bit soon, but you will run into this eventually. Dealership will probably charge you 200-300 dollars. You can always be a do-it-yourselfer. There is a tutuorial on here for the 8.8 axles, but it would be a little different on the 4th gen because they are Independent 8.8 axles.

I just replaced the right front seal on our '07 Mounty with 67K miles. Simple straight forward job IF using the OEM seal. The Napa seal is just slightly too big and won't drive in straight. Spend the extra $15 and get the Ford part.
