Does anyone know the difference in the lift supports used on the tailgate glass between vehicles made in the St. Louis and Louisville plants? My 2007 Explorer was made in the Louisville plant per my VIN. However, most of the lift supports I see for sale are for vehicles made in the St. Louis plant.

Can I use lift supports for a St. Louis made Explorer in my Louisville made Explorer?

For what it's worth, my crash book only lists one lift support with no differentiation to the plant which made the Explorer. It just lists one part number: 6L2Z-7842104-AA.

I can't imagine why there would be any difference? I replaced the ones on my glass a few years ago without much success. When new, the OEM ones would pretty much open the glass themselves - the replacements require a manual boost to get it to go all the way up although they do hold it up - the old ones wouldn't.

What he said.
