Hello,

My 2007 Sport trac has this high pitched whistle at approximately 40mph. Sounds like a dog whistle. It sounds like it is coming from the right read but it’s hard to tell. Some history on the truck: new jasper tranny, new driveshaft, new rear diff, new rear cv axles, and more wonderful parts. The noise is brought on by cold weather. I don’t hear this noise during the summer months. The noise begins at 40mph and get louder and higher in tone until it is like someone flips and switch and I don’t hear it. It does not change with RPM, braking, weight transfer, or tranny in neutral. It is driving me absolutely nuts. Has anyone ran into this problem and know a solution?

Possibly the vacuum control valve? (Motorcraft YG360)

I don’t believe so because the noise is coming from the rear of the truck and does not changed with rpm. Only wheel speed.

Sounds like it's "rotational noise" coming from the rear that changes pitch with speed. Having wheel bearings serviced or replaced was not mentioned in your original post. 2007-10 Sport Tracs have known past issues with front and rear wheel hub bearing failures.

That’s funny you mention the bearings because I have replaced the front bearings and one rear hub/knuckle assy. I have not replaced the right rear hub/knuckle assy. I think that is the cause of the noise but I wanted to be sure before spending more money on this truck.
