2007 Sport Trac needs new engine...What are my options?

My mother has a 2007 Sport Trac that needs the engine (V6) replaced. Being the good son that I am I'm trying to help her out. So I'm asking the experts....YOU!! What vehicles and year range can I get an engine from that will work in her 2007? I can transfer her accessories as they are still good. Just need the main dish. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Any 4.0l SOHC will fit. 97 to 2011 New the better. Mustang, Land Rover, Explorer, Ranger, or Sport Trac. Just need to swap sensors exhaust and intake systems from the old one to the new one.

Do you need the entire engine? (long block = with heads)
Or just the short block = literally the block with pistons, crank, etc. ??

So many options. Do a search. Example short blocks (assuming lower-end went, and heads can be moved over)

  • For Sale- 01-07 Ford 4.0 V6 SOHC Engine Short Block
• O'Reilly Auto Parts -- they're everywhere! Should be good, but after selecting 2007 Ford Sport Trac 4.0 V6, the site shows a big list of CHEVY Small block V8 engines! ??? WTF?

• Screw it. Get the complete LONG BLOCK from Summit Racing! (every Hot-rodder is familiar with them)
  • prices from $3300-, but its a long-block (complete engine, minus accessories)
  • long blocks should have a better warranty because they are so complete.
  • unfortunately, no availability right now.
• Check the MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT for your town/city police cars.
  • Those are normally run through a couple of engines before they are sold.
  • They will have a local shop that does full engine rebuilds, or can refer you to one.
• JEGS has EVERYTHING: from engines to brakes to locking differentials
  • 4.0 V6 engine, 245 HP, complete long block, 3-year unlimited mileage warranty $3600- for 2007 Sport Trac
