I am getting the dreaded P0456 code on my 2008 Ford Explorer 4.0L V6. Autozone says check the fuel cap, but there is no fuel cap, it has the cap less fill system in it.

I have read the OBDII code and it says to check the EVAP purge valve and vent valve.

This is about the 3rd time the light has come on recently so now it is time for me to start replacing parts.

Where is the EVAP purge valve and the vent valve located on the 2008 4.0L Explorers? Is the purge valve in the engine compartment some where and the vent valve near the tank under the vehicle somewhere? I have looked a pictures of the parts but can't seem to find them on the vehicle.

I not sure, but May be different since 2006 did not have the cap less system.

Do you have to drop the tank to get to the vent valve or is it accessible fairly easily? Also if fuel hoses have to be replaced, any special hoses needed or can I just go to the part store and get regular fuel line?

For those who are wondering, the canister purge solenoid is located in the engine compartment right below the fuse box.

It slides on to a metal bracket and there are 2 large hoses that come off the solenoid. One of them goes to the top of the engine. I had to replace that line also because it had become very worn and cracking. I replaced it with some 3/8 inch fuel line and transferred the connection ends to the new hose.

The vent valve is located near the gas tank on the passenger side of the vehicle towards the right rear axle shaft.

I reset the check engine light, will see what happens....

Well, the check engine light came back on for the same P0456 code. Guess I will try replacing the vent valve near the tank.:thumbdwn:
