Help. My 2008 Explorer with the 4.6 L V8 has been tripping a code for the MAF sensor. My dealer wants to sell me a new one but I was wondering if I should try cleaning it first or taking it somewhere that will. Is it very hard to get to. I dont think it would be but what kind of tools would I need? (I do have a large variety). Thanks for any help everybody.

you would need to take out to torx screws and slide it out.

do you have an k&n or wet air filter installed?

I cleaned mine a few weeks ago. Unfortuantely it didn't clear up my issue, but it only took about 15 minutes. For the $3.95 it costs to buy MAF Sensor Cleaner, it can't hurt.

The piece is located right next to the Air Filter. Remove the two torx screws, detach the wiring, spray, let dry, reinstall.

Before you let some specialist try to replace it for $60/Hr + Parts, I'd try cleaning it.
