I moved the double passenger seat to the forward/down position. When I went to move it back to upright position, it would not allow this action. I found a small spring under the seat that appeared to have fallen out of the racheting mechanism next to the single seat assembly.

I removed the seat from the vehicle and now can't seem to find the right way to install the spring so that it will pull on a moveable cam so that the seat will work correctly again using the release handle. For dealer says I need to buy $400 replacement assembly with the spring installed as it came from the assembly line new. I'd like to fix it myself. Any ideas?

You are referring to the second row split bench seats right?

The mechanism should be the same between the two seat halves so I would just take a look at the other side and figure out how/where that spring was located. It is possible that the spring broke and you will need to find another one that is long enough to run between the two points that it needs to hook to.
