2010 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello, all.

This is my first post to the forums. I've come here as a DIY mechanic, having always worked on my own vehicles, but I'm having trouble deciding where to turn with this issue.

2010 Explorer 4.0/ 5r55s @130k miles.

The problem: While driving, when it's reached 50mph and cruising, the wrench light appears and I've noticed that the torque converter no longer locks up.

I have a friend with a high end scan tool that shows torque converter slip as well as a code for the torque converter electronics ( I cannot recall what he said here).
He did clear the codes and said that the one 'electronic fault' immediately came back with the engine off/ key on. This lead him to think it may be an issue with
the electronic controls for the TC.

There were never any issues before. No shift issues or shuddering. Still runs and drives great aside from this.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

From searching forums and google, and not finding this specific issue for this specific vehicle, my hunch now is that the problem resides in the solenoid block.
I'm capable of performing the install, but I'm not one to throw parts at something.

mine does the same thing but shows no ill effects and junk yards with what i need in my area are slill locked down so i cant get a used solenoid block and new you might as well throw the thing off a cliff

Well, I did get the pack changed out with a new unit, with no change at all.

I've also read that the TCC spring located in the valve body can break and leave the TC in full lock or unlock.

If I'd know this I would have easily checked the spring while it was apart. I may end up draining the fluid again and checking, but as you said, no ill effects so far.

We just drove it 1800 miles all around Colorado and back to Texas getting a reported 18mpg.
