2011 Explorer airbag warning light, seat belt buckle

Hi,
My airbag light came on a few weeks back in my 2011 Explorer Limited (188,000 miles). Today the dealer diagnosed it as “drivers seat belt buckle, replace and retest”. The price is $653. When they called me they said the seat belt pre-tensioner needed replaced, but the report says replace drivers seat belt buckle. Wondering if this is something I can replace and what exactly I should replace. Any ideas?

Many times the reason for the airbag light coming ON is because of the connector under the driver's seat. I would check that out to make sure there is a good solid connection before doing anything else. It may be as simple as that.

How many people have had the airbag warning light activate

So, there seems to be more than a couple people who have had this problem. When it is lit, the airbags are reported to not be operable. Have you had this problem? Let's see how widespread it might be.
