The following applies to the Explorer & PIU (thanks to Jason, jmr061 for the info)

SSM 6329
- Apr 11 2018
2007-2016 Various Vehicles - All Wheel Drive (AWD) - Propane Or Natural Gas Odor During Idle Or Low Speed Driving - Built On Or Before 30-Jun-2016

Some 2007-2016 Edge/MKX/Flex/MKT/MKZ/MKS/Taurus/Police Interceptor Sedan/Explorer/Police Interceptor Utility vehicles equipped with AWD and built on or before 30-Jun-2016 may exhibit a propane or natural gas odor during idle or low speed driving. This may be due to break down of the power transfer unit (PTU) fluid caused by excessive heat. If the source of the odor is identified as originating from the PTU, an idler bearing repair kit is available to repair the PTU. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 308-07. If the PTU is determined to be repairable, utilize kit GB5Z-7P258-A and the included instruction sheet. For claiminguse causal part 7P258 and applicable labor operations in section 07 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

2016-2019 Explorer roof rack cap trim clips now available.

2016-2019 Explorer roof rack cap clips are now available as a separate part. It is no longer necessary to order a complete roof rack rail to obtain the cap retainer clips. To correct loose roof rack caps or broken or missing clips, order part number FB5Z-7851050-A. Ensure roof rails are properly torqued to 55 in/lbs (6.2 Nm) and that power tools are not used for installation as over-torqueing may cause warpage and poor fitment.

Thanks to Jason (jmr061).

SSM 47570

2016-2018 ExplorerAir Conditioning (A/C) Defaults To Heat And Defrost During Remote Start – Built On Or Before 07-Aug-2018

Some 2016-2018 Explorer vehicles built on or before 07-Aug-2018 may automatically switch from A/C to heat and defrost after 1 minute during a remote start event when the customer expects the A/C to remain on.

To resolve the concern, reprogram the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) control module using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool.

For claiming, use causal part 19980 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

Battery Cable Clamp Corrosion Repair – 2012-2019 Ford & Lincoln

oemdtc September 25, 2019 Info

NHTSA ID Number: 10164497

Manufacturer Communication Number: SSM 48123

Summary

For Ford and Lincoln vehicles that require positive or negative battery terminal replacement, it is not necessary to replace the complete battery cable harness (14300 and 14301) for this concern. Positive battery cable clamp BT4Z-14450-AA and negative battery cable clamp BT4Z-14450-BA are available for this type of repair. Do not cut or shorten the battery cable, instead carefully remove the affected battery cable clamp and clean the cable end as necessary to preserve wire length. Some rework may be necessary for some vehicle environments. Bend the new positive battery cable clamp as needed and crimp it to the existing battery cable. Make sure to use heat shrink tubing over the battery cable to battery cable clamp connection. Obtain the heat shrink tube locally.

For affected vehicles, see; Battery Cable Clamp Corrosion Repair - 2012-2019 Ford & Lincoln

SSM 47738 FYI only.....not a fix.

Some 2016-2019 Explorer vehicles may exhibit a heated lower front seat cushion that does not operate properly after turning the ignition on after a remote start event. To temporarily resolve the concern, the heated seat control switch may be cycled off and then back on. Do not attempt any repairs at this time. Engineering is investigating. To assist with the investigation, use the Report a Vehicle Concern link at the bottom of the OASIS report and fill out the form. Monitor OASIS for updates.
