2011 Rear Hatch Paint Chip

Long time lurker.

I have a 2011 and last year noticed a paint chip on the rear hatch just under the horizontal chrome trim. I asked the dealer about it just before the 36K mile expired and was told it was probably hit by a rock.

I was skeptical but accepted the answer. I've tried to touch it up myself but it's not very good.

Recently, I've seen 2 other Explorers with the same paint chip.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes, there have been a few posts here about paint issues on the liftgate but they are mixed in with other threads.

I have the same issue. I caught mine and it was starting to rust in the area. I cleaned it up and put some touch up paint on it. I has held up well for now but will probably need a repaint one of these days.
