We are going to order a new Explorer because our dealer cannot find what we want in a 2011 in our area. Any one have an insight into when they may actually be available?

On 07-17-2011 there was a post entitled MY2012 Explorer Window Sticker that showed a link to the Window Sticker. According to the sticker, the build date was July 19th. The post is on page 5 (as of today).

They are now in production. Think they've almost churned out 5000 2012's already.

If you want one I'd order soon as "special" orders take some time to build. It was confirmed that 12's have rolled off the line and many who ordered have delivery dates.

Thanks for all the great posts here. MikeFreas is correct, 2012MY Explorers have rolled off the line and others are being scheduled as well.

Dark Blue Pearl

Has anyone been to any dealers that have the 2012 in Dark Blue Pearl?

If so, is it less purplely then the Kona Blue?

I've seen it on an F-150 but it was indoors so it was hard to tell how it looked compared to the Kona Blue.

When I bought my 11 on Saturday, the manager asked the salesman to look up what 12's were coming in, and the first 10 they were getting were all XLT's. Being that I was in the market for a Limited, I went with the 11.

The dark blue pearl is less purple than the kona.
I love my kona blue, get lots of compliments on it. But, it is not available on the '12s.

I've seen the dark blue on other Fords not on the 12s yet.

Kona is lighter in shade & has the purple tint, the dark blue doesn't have as much metal flake, so doesn't reflect as much. Definitely doesn't have the same tint as the kona.

I'm about to order a 2012 and would love to see the new blue on an explorer before committing to Red Candy.

For those who placed an order for a 2012, how long did they tell you it would take for delivery? I was told by one dealer it was 4-6 weeks, but another told me more like 8-10 weeks.

I'm trying to decide if I should place an order for exactly what I want, or take a 2011 with one or two options missing. Thanks!

4-6 seems rather quick, but I suppose not impossible if the dealer has allocation. We really can't tell for sure yet, as they orders haven't started to get delivered, but I would guess 6 weeks is probably your minimum, but make sure you would be okay with it taking 8-10 weeks.

Not that you asked, but if you want my opinion, order the 2012 with the exact features you want. If you don't NEED the truck right now, the extra couple weeks is really not that long a wait in the long run, and you know you will then be really happy with your purchase.

Only a few color changes, and the packages have changed a little, but the actual features have not. Hopefully, however, the 2012s have also fixed some of the issues reported in the 2011s. Do some reading on here. Search is your friend.

Ok thanks a lot, sorry for the trouble, my phone kept redirecting me to the homepage when I tried to search. Anyways I was looking on the forums and saw the problems a lot of people were having and wanted to know if it is worth buying a 2011 explorer.

No worries. I didn't mean to be so curt. I just meant to read up on the issues in case you were curious about which ones, like A-pillar and rain noise, overheating (which is almost certainly not an issue anymore), etc. Good luck on your choice. Personally, I'd wait for the 2012.

Naa, I didnt mean it like that either. Actually after this reply I guess I will be researching more problems after all. I had just heard about the a-pillar and MFT, but ill definately look up the rest and maybe even wait for the 12' if necessary. Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forum dahoeller! Buying a new car is a big deal, and I would make sure you’re getting exactly what you want!
