I've read where the 2014 Explorer is more fuel efficient than the 2013 Explorer. Is that true? What did Ford do? I'm looking at the Base model--without Ecoboost--and am trying to determine if I should by a 2013 or 2014. Appreciate advice.

I don't know what the 2013 was rated at but the 2014 is 17 city / 24 hwy / 20 combined (FWD) and 17 city / 23 hwy / 19 combined (4WD) for the 3.5L V6. This info was taken from the Ford.com website. I doubt that it is different from the 2013.

They are the same

I do know that the wife's 2013 3.5L ecoboost sport was rated at 16 city / 22 hwy / 18 combined (4WD)

It usually gives her right above 20.2 mpg average on the dash display
during her daily round trip commute of 80 miles or so here in DFW...

now when I drive it... I get in trouble for lowering her mpg average :)
She bought it for looks and me for other reasons !

I just did a trip, from Ottawa, Canada to Bryson City NC around trip of 4200km
I averaged 21.4 MPG(us gallon) (I was up at 22.9 until I hit the hills of NC) not to bad. In the city i'm getting about 14 mpg (us gallon)

I guess. I'll jump in. My wife's 14' AWD is averaging 19.4 to and from work with no highway and light stop and go. Under 1,500k miles.

i think only difference will be interior and nothing else because never hear about any development in engine design

He was asking about the 2.0l ecoboost not the sport....i think

Never mind...........I read wrong

So far all of you win. I have the Sport 3.5 Eco. It has about 1400 miles now. The average has risen to 13.9 from my original 13.3. No I do not gun the engine. 90% of my driving is around town.
