On Monday, I place and order for a 2013 Explorer XLT at my local ford dealership. As we are going through the order process, the gentleman tells me that the 2nd row bucket seats are not available yet for the XLT's, and he doesnt know when they will be. He didn't have a code for them yet in his system. This is the main reason we are ordering a 2013 Explorer. I don't understand how I can go online and "build" my Explorer and they are avalable. Has anyone else come across this problem, or heard about it?

Welcome to the forums

That is my plan/reason to get a 2013 as well - the 2nd row bucket seats. I have not done the order process yet. My guess would be, as randomly mentioned in other 2013 threads, is that the "final pricing numbers" for 2013 is not out yet. Maybe PM Cory (Ford Rep on forums) here to give him your contact info and dealer you were working with and he can run it up the chain to get the order process updated.

:)

Welcome to the Forum Texas Explorer. :wavey:
I don't think 2nd row buckets are available on the XLT. I just did the build for an XLT and while there is an option shown for 2nd row bucket seats, the details for that option states that the available six-passenger seating configuration is available on the Limited model.
I don't know why they show it, or the console for the XLT model.
If you want the 2nd row bucket seats you will have to get the Limited.

Peter

Peter - thanks for sales pitch on Limited. I plan to visit dealership next Monday to drive EcoBoost. If they make some insane offer on a Limited Eco with buckets - I may have to jump. Otherwise, I'll just have to wait for the build option for XLT with buckets.

It is an option for XLT in 2013. See this thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=338330

Sarg's statement:
My dealer advised the following changes

Front passenger knee airbag standard on all models

New colour offerings
— Kodiak Brown Metallic
— Green Gem Metallic
— Oxford White
— Deep Impact Blue
— Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat

Colours no longer available
— Golden Bronze
— White Suede
— Dark Blue Pearl

The Limited Luxury Seat Package gets the heated steering wheel and the Power Tilt/Telescoping steering column.

The Limited Technology Package gets the Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist and the Auto High Beams.

2nd Row Bucket Seats – 6 passengers (w/Power Assist
Folding Seats, Adjustable Tracks) and 2nd Row Console now available on XLT models

New Final Drive Ratio's for the 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 Engine

and Cory's confirmation:

Hi guys,

The details Sgt1411 posted are correct. The reason for the early 13MY is to coincide with the 13MY launch of Taurus and MKS, which are also at Chicago Assembly. It also allows us to launch the 13MY Utility Police Interceptor, which is based on the Explorer, as early as possible, which is important with the discontinuation of the Crown Vic.

grrtrainman,

The dealers can begin placing customer orders next week, for production in mid-February.

Spengracin,

Lane Departure Warning cannot be added to the 11/12MY versions.

Cory

And the build option on Ford website lets you pick that for XLT build. Me thinks they just haven't finished the order process update .... ;)

Regards

NO sales pitch on my part Gatortailale. I'm just telling you what the Ford.com website shows. It does not have the 2nd row bench option for the XLT. Even though it is listed in the options, and you can add it to your 'build', when you read the details, it says it is available for the Limited model. That is what I find confusing and that is likely why Texas Explorer's saleman could not find a code for it when they were discussing his order. I also looked under Models & Options and it only showed the 60/40 split bench. If they don't offer it now, I doubt it will be available later on the 2013, but who knows anymore? I hope they do because there seem to be quite a few people who would like that option on an XLT.

What is so good about 2nd row bucket ?

I just ordered a limited with bench config ?

I guess if you have kids and don't get the 2nd row center console, then there is a space that can be used as a pass through to the rear seats. Unfortunately, previous models ordered with the 2nd row buckets and no console, did not have inboard arm rests on the seats.
I also have the Limited with the bench and that seems to the norm.

Peter you like bench ?

I dont have kids. I just wanted to have an option to seat 3 in the back & use 3rd row for luggage.

I have Edge & the middle of back seat does not have enough cushion. How about explorer ?

I actually prefer to sit in the driver's seat. Im the only one in the family unless you want to count my dog.:D
The bench seat is suitable for two adults and one child in the middle. If trying to squeeze three adults in there they better be on very friendly terms.;)
The middle part is quite narrow and firm and when I tried sitting there the receiving end for the seatbelt was prodding me you know where.
I haven't tried the 3rd row seat yet.

Peter

The middle seat is a pain in the butt (literally) with cars that have the inflatable seat belts. There's a whole thread about it, and I can verify with my visit to the car show. The inflatable seat belts render the middle seat unusable by anyone larger than a small child.

You don't require inflatable seat belts for that middle seat issue Vince.

Hey Peter, I am not seeing inboard arm rests with console. I went to the Ford website and looked at interior photos. It shows the console but no armrests. I am thinking that the center console becomes an armrest? The seats shown on the website look exactly like mine.

I have rear buckets without the console (bummed) and I do not have armrests. I have read here on the forum that to add a console is about 800 or 900 US dollars, yet a 100 dollar option when ordered.

I don't mind paying a bit more for the console after the fact, but I'm not paying 8 or 9 hundred dollars to contribute to Cory's and Rebecca's kids college funds. No offense to C&R.

My information shows that they will be available to order on Mar 5.

That is what I mentioned in one of my posts. Yes, the console takes the place of the armrests but if you don't order it as well, then you only have the armrests on the door. I can only assume that there are no inboard armrests so that they would not interfere with the center pass through if there is no console.

That would be good news for many prospective buyers. Just strange that they aren't available now when people are already placing orders.

Oh, I thought it was those specific buckles caused the problem.

Not an issue for us, as we intend to get the armrest-less bucket seats in the back with the console.

Speaking of consoles... I wonder if the refrigerator console from the Flex could be installed? Might be nice to keep 1 or 2 small containers of drink chilled ;)

The 2nd-row buckets also come with a handy button you can press to cause the seat to fold forward allowing easy access to the 3rd row. I have a 2012 and we decided against the extra $$ for the luxury seating package plus buckets plus console. So far we've only used the 3rd row twice and it wasn't all that big of a deal to fold the 2nd row.

Mech,
If you dont mind, could you elaborate. When you say "my info", are you implying that mabye you've ordered an XLT with 2nd row buckets and your were told that or have an order sheet that says that?

You got it Texas.

I just ordered through Military Sales. 2013 XLT, Tuxedo Black, Medium Light Stone, Rapid Spec 202a, BLIS, Second Row Buckets, Cargo Shade and Roof Rack Cross Bars.

The order sheet says that the second row buckets are on hold, but available Mar 05

-Hope that helps.

Hey everyone,

Small correction: I confirmed that the 2nd row bucket seats won’t be available on the XLT until March 5th.

Update: Production has now been delayed from March 5th to May 7th.

You’re right, Peter; that’s a mistake on the site. We’ll get it fixed. :D
