2014 Explorer Winter Tires

Hello All,

I have just moved from a 2011 Escape Limited to a 2014 Explorer Limited and was wondering if the 17" winter tires I bought 2 seasons ago would be suitable for the explorer with it's 20" wheels.

I realize I may have to replace the rims, but would going from a 20" to a 17" cause any other issues other than the speedometer accuracy?

Use this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Type in your 2 sizes and you'll see how much bigger one tire is, and it'll tell you the speedo issues as well. Usually you can run about +/- 1% before noticing a speedo issue.

Do the lug patterns match? If so, then you actually wanna see if you can keep the rims and find tires that are within 1-2% of your stock tires. Tires for a 17" rim will probably be cheaper than tires for a 21" rim. With that much of a difference, though, the problem you might see is finding a set that will have a load rating high enough to be run on your Explorer.
