Hello everyone, new member here, first post. I have what seems to be the only 2.3L in existence with a bad PTU. They fail all the time on the V6 models, but I cannot find another instance of a 2.3L unit failing… other than my own. For about the last 6 months it makes a ‘whooping’ noise under moderate load, and has been shedding copious amounts of metal. It’s on borrowed time. I can source a used PTU for a reasonable price, but my worry is the removal/reinstallation process. To my eye, it looks like it can be removed without much trouble. Have to remove the lower motor mount, passenger axle, and driveshaft, but otherwise just unbolt it and it should come out. However, I have access to the factory documents for this job, and it says to also remove the cat, an oil line from the turbo, lowering the subframe, and more. Has anybody but me needed to do this on the 2.3L?
