Does anybody know what Kelvin the 2016 Explorer headlights are? And is it literally just a reflector housing with an LED bulb or is there more to it? How much better/worse is this vs. an OEM HID set-up?

it's not quite as focused as a proper HID projector setup, tis true.

but it is 4300K white, High output light. very clean, very well lit.

I would highly advise against changing them out - because they are also built into the housing. the LED element is on the side of the housing - and aimed across to a reflector. This setup seems to be a precursor to a adaptive, moving light system, from the looks of it. The LED element also has a heat sink.

I think one of the other models has a projector system, and I think those are LED also - not 100% sure.

either way the 2016 headlamps are very good from the factory. the high beam leaves a bit to be desired and I believe I'm going to swap mine for a power LED also. Don't know what yet.

I'm also thinking I'll put some 3000K yellows in the fogs.
