- 2016 Explorer XLT
Just purchased a used 2016 Explorer XLT with 40k. I was advised to drain/fill my PTU. To my surprise I found no fluid at all escape out of the fill hole. I filled with AMSOIL severe gear 75-140. Anyone out there experienced the same low fluid level, and how do I know if any damage has occurred. I’ve read a lot about puking vent hoses and great amounts of sludge in these “lifetime filled” units. Posted this in the transmission/transfer case page but no looks so reposting here.
I pulled the vent tube today and was clean as a whistle, could see daylight through it. Stuck a qtip through the barb nipple for the vent and went all the way through the case with very minimal sludge.
Also my drain plug looks much different from what others are explaining. Mine used a 3/8” ratchet to remove and had rather large threads. Also the magnet didn’t protrude out in the case, or was flat on the case end.
