2016 Platinum Late Production?

Hi everyone,

I’ve received some of your inquiries about your orders, and I replied. Please keep them coming, and I’ll be happy to check the status!

Tricia,

With all due respect, and you have been very nice and very helpful, that response is the opposite of what I think those waiting want to hear. At least speaking for myself...

This is the part nobody is answering and getting customers upset...

Well said Patsy. Tricia, Ford is lacking with specifics. I'm not really sure that you won't just be reiterating the "We are working on an eta, but we don't have any further info"...
Hey guys,

Unfortunately, if there are any holds at the plant, I will not have access to these updates as it is proprietary information to the plant. I recommend to continue to follow-up with me or your sales manager for updates. :)

Tricia is AWESOME and has personally helped me track my Limited order...
Thanks for your kind words, stevesmith1328! :D

I can go and spend $10 to have a package shipped via FedEX/UPS and will get nearly up to the hour tracking but if I spend 50k on a car, nobody has a clue where it is. 1 million packages shipped a day. 130,000 explorers shipped a year.

Come on now.

If you had any idea how many shipments FedEx and UPS loose or end up at the wrong destination, you would probably never ship something you were SOL if it got lost. I know this for a fact.

I don't doubt that. But I have shipped at least 50 items in my life and not a single issue that I can speak of. We're not talking about errors and discrepancies here. We're talking about logistics. UPS and FedEx have the ability to track things from door to door. Why can't an auto giant do the same? It would require a simple label and bar code. Very simple technology that has been around for years. At each point of the cycle, the person who touches it last updates the status that the vehicle is in. This is not rocket science guys. We got to the moon. We can track a vehicle. Stop trying to justify why Ford is not capable of doing that.

By the way, I'm not trying to say that Ford owes the consumer anything. I think people just need to be patient, but to say that Ford is not capable of implementing a better tracking system... sorry I don't buy that.

I don't think Ford has any issues with their tracking system. They have some of the best technology available. I think this issue is pure CS. Some very valid points were made regarding margins. We the consumers have beaten down the profit margins on these vehicles and as a result it leaves less room (and desire) to service the customer. Both from Ford's perspective and the dealer's.

I personally never beat the dealer up and ask them to work for $100. I let them make a VERY fair profit (IMO) and that is because customer service is very important to me and I insist on it. I let them make a profit, give them my business and loyalty and in return I expect good customer care. If they breach that, then I won't do business with them.

We can't have it both ways, either we want top customer service or low prices. That's why we can't complain when jobs go overseas and quality control goes down and at the same time we demand better quality. It's a matter of "be careful what you ask for". I think there is a balance. What's fair to me isn't always fair to the next guy but if everyone strives for balance and doesn't look to cut the other person's throat, we find balance.

Off the soap box......Ford has had to respond to a cutthroat market, that we the consumers have created, so we can't blame them entirely for not holding our hands every step of the way BUT now they want to compete in the luxury SUV market and that's a different ball game. The expectations are different.

Technically if you have enough connections or power with Ford's system, you know where the vehicle is. First they know where it is if it is built. You can also tell where it is down the assembly line (CS does not have access to this). The person I ordered from knew exactly where it was.. even emailed me when it entered paint.

When it is being shipped, the vehicle/train car is scanned updated at every check point. I saw in the salesman's computer EVERY step it took on train from Chicago through PA, NY all the way to MA until it got unloaded onto the convoy/truck. It was time/date stamped when it arrived at each checkpoint. Every salesman has access to this once shipped.

Even when my F350 left KTP, he was updating me on where the delivery drive was. It technically can happen.. do you really think any manufacturer can't track their vehicles? The difference is, at what level and they sure as hell aren't going to do this for the general public. Again, way too many resources taken up to do this for everyone.

I think Ford is doing a lot right in respect to certain things in regards to technology and the power of the Internet. I have always been loyal to Ford so until the other day when a co-worker was looking to buy a car I didn't realize that some other manufacturers don't have the ability through their websites to search dealer inventory which is a huge advantage in my opinion.

However with technology what it is today I think Ford could take it a step further and marry some of the systems they already have now so that individuals that order a car would be able to log into a system and see the status of their vehicle at any given time. This would give time back to salespeople that are currently updating their customers and give more time to Tricia who has been weighed upon heavily to provided us as much as she can in respect to these updates. It would be a bummer not to be able to visit with you Tricia, but just imagine your free time. :)

The Limited I currently have on order is the first one I have ever had to order and have taken from the dealership inventory in the past. Currently I personally am only concerned to know when my vehicle is being built and when should I expect it. Others however would be interested in knowing when it is entering the paint section, etc and I think that is great to help pass the time between ordering and taking delivery. Provided this information is logged somewhere already it shouldn't be that hard to build a website accessible to those that have ordered so it can be seen by them also.

These forum were created to share information and ideas to assist each other and also provide feedback. I am not a computer guy in respect to programming, but if online inventory can be searched, a program can be written to see the status of a vehicle especially if it is information already being entered into a system. I don't see how making this type of user friendly website could be taxing on resources if all the information is already being collected. I see the "general public" as being the customers that keep the productions lines running with their orders and the individuals that deserve the best customer service possible. Some have been lucky to either be a big enough customer or have a good relationship with a dealership that they are kept completely up to date on their order, but I don't believe this is the norm from reading posts. A lot of the recent posts I have seen in this particular thread are about the delays in the Platinum model and not being informed on the delays. While I am not in that boat since I don't have one on order I can understand and put myself in your shoes related to the frustration of not knowing what is delaying getting the vehicles to you.

I think a lot of this could be avoided if a system was in place to see the status of the vehicle and see a message posted regarding the delay if it is something holding the production of all of this model back. I could be wrong, but I don't think the ability of us as customers being able to log in and see that our vehicles are being made on a particular day or shipped on a particular day rises to the level of a security issue which would prevent a website being made to access this data.

It would be very easy if a system was already in place to be able to query all the pending orders that are being delayed and place a message stating that they are being delayed until a posted date due to lack of seats or lack of a certain part. I understand not everyone would be happy, but at least you would know the interruption in production and be informed as much as possible on the delay.

If this was 10 years ago I would read this post and think I am crazy, but we are talking about the technology age. The time in which I kids hear something unfamiliar to them and instead of asking us as parents they fire up the computer and ask Google. I believe this type of tracking system for ordered vehicles would improve customer service points with Ford and make long time Ford customer like myself that much more loyal. I am new to this forum and maybe this is something that Ford isn't doing for good reason so please accept my apology if I am not aware of some prior posts regarding something like this. Maybe one day we will all be tracking our Ford orders in a different more efficient fashion.

Very well said, I agree with your point of view.

The demand for Explorers, especially Platinum trim is overwhelming for a model not quite finished its teething pains at the Chicago Assembly Plant.

I have never ordered one but as a comparison it would be interesting to know what the factory order delivery times are for a 2015/16 Tahoe LTZ, Yukon Denali, or Escalade from GM Plant in Arlington Texas.

The idea of the customer being given a user name and special PSWD to log into a site similar to the Window Sticker site and check on their vehicle might not be a bad idea since it already exists. They could simply write an extract that pulls data from the proprietary Ford system to a standalone system that tells the customer a little update info at each stage. Good idea.

Surprise Arrival

On Monday, I was reassured my Platinum was built but on hold to 4th quarter. I asked my dealer to check again since this forum showed evidence of a delivery to New York. He said his contact (I assume the Ford regional mgr) confirmed my VIN was on hold and was sure to say not even October was assured. By then , I was at the Buick dealer shopping and had them seek a dealer trade for the Enclave I wanted. My Ford dealer called Tuesday excited to ask me if I still wanted my Ford since it just showed up on a truck??? They were as surprised as I was. It is now in my garage and I got what I was told when I ordered last May - an August delivery. If I would of never followed this forum, my blood pressure would of been better LOL. Congrats! Odd how disconnected the information is. Also, that's a link to photos of antique furniture and silverware, no Platinum Explorer :-)

Congrats on taking delivery of your new Platinum! I clicked the link you provided but ended up looking at photos of antiques -- not a 2016 Explorer Platinum.

BTW, it looks like Platinum production may be happening again. I just checked extended dealer inventory at ford.com and found a Platinum that was ordered by a Rhode Island dealership. The code at the bottom of the window sticker indicates that it is scheduled to be built next week, September 2 to be exact. Here's a link to the window sticker:

This is the first Platinum to appear in the New England area.

Congrats! That is a great surprise. Looking forward to hearing how you like it and your review once you have some time with her! Pics, pics, pics!

Hope this means good things for others on the list.

Bronze Fire 2016

I have not been very good at posting pictures so far. This should show a collection. I have not driven far to comment but in/out of garage and programming settings have been good. Like the cameras and sound and seat climate. This from a 2003 Expedition with blown sub so grain of salt.

Very nice. Loving the color!

How do you like the ceramic leather? Too white or just right?

Well are or are they not.

Is the production line moving and are they shipping the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum?

I ordered back in late June. So far I do not have a vin number from the dealer but he assures me my order has been placed. I supposedly have an order number and a dealer code number, can I track my order with just these???

Thank for the input and help!!!

Very, very nice. I like how the light coloured seats and door inserts break up an otherwise black/grey interior.

If the seats are the problem, why wouldn't the Limited or Sport have the same problem? I have called Ford marketing. They can see my order but can offer no other info. The dealers were told today by conference call that the
platinums are on hold to October.

I could be wrong but I believe the limited, sport and platinum all have different seats. I know the stitching is different for sure on the limited and the sport.

But it sounds like a mechanical problem. I wanted a Sport but I also wanted rain sensing wipers and auto bright headlights and they weren't avail on Sport.

I talked to my dealer today. My order status is the same as it has been the last three weeks. I ordered a Platinum on 7/15, got my VIN about two weeks later with a build week of 9/21.
Tricia backed this up, as well.

We'll see how this works.
