Hello All,
I searched through the forum and did not see anyone mentioning this specific mod, so I figured I would post a quick How-To on deleting the roof rails using OE parts. Now this mod uses the newer PIU roof molding, and retainers, from a 03/2017 - 2019 Police Interceptor Units and is fully reversible if you choose to put the OE roof rails back on. The roof molding is pretty expensive if you order new from the dealer but could be sourced from a junkyard unit.
To install the molding and retainers is very simple and utilizes the stock roof rail mounting points.
The parts list is below:
First step is to remove roof rail caps, then the bolts holding down the rails themselves. There is plenty of info out there on how to remove them.
You will reuse all the bolts mounting the roof rails except for the center stud, so you will need 2 M6 x 1.0 30mm bolts to replace them.
Once the rails and bolts have been removed it's a good idea to clean the rail area, especially the rear, as the roof molding has adhesive on the rear.
The diagram below shows where to bolt the plastic retainers on the roof:
These screenshots of the part numbers used also show where to mount the retainers. The retainers only fit one way, so they're pretty easy to install.
Add silicone to the bolt threads to ensure they seal and keep water out. The pic below shows the all retainers installed.
With the retainers bolted into place, you can now attach the one piece roof molding.
The molding snaps into place onto the retainers. There is a hook on the very front of the molding that slips into the front retainer slot. Pretty easy to do once you see it in person. Then the rear has an adhesive strip you push into place.
Thats it you're done! Whole process should take less than an hour and looks great!
Hopefully this post will help someone in the future.
