Im loosing my reverse, i don't know much about transmissions, but id describe what happends when im in reverse as what its like driving a standard car with a bad clutch.

It doesnt do it in drive, but when backing up i can hear it slipping... how long do i have before it just doesnt move when in reverse... and how much is it going to cost me when it does?

make sure your bands are adjusted properly, and check your fluid, could also be a leaking low/reverse servo, actually could be a lot of things. but start with the basics

Have you ever changer the trany filter.

If you're still on your original transmission at that mileage, you shouldn't be complaining, you should be congratulating it!

That's monumental mileage for even a simple GM Hydramatic, say nothing of a sophisticated 5-speed fully electronic box such as this one.

I probably wouldn't bother with any type of new or rebuilt tranny, but rather a nice low-mileage used one if it's determined that the tranny is for sure bad. It sounds like it probably is though, based on how you described its symptoms. Check at a reputable salvage yard for a good used one, or at www.car-part.com to put you in touch with yards in your area that do have one.

Edit: You do know you're in the 2002-2005 forum, right? :p: :D

210k on an Explorer v6 tranny is almost absurd. Tranny rebuilds are usually around 1,500.

Sorry about the wrong forum, thanks for the input, and yeah i am very happy with the fact that my explorers still rolling, but the previous and only other owner, the one who put the majority of the miles on it, took very good care of it.
