I have searched and found that you can fit up to 31x10.5 inch tires on a 94 with no lift. What im wondering is can i use 29x10.5 tires on my stock rims because i have only 3.27 gears and think i'll lose too much power with 30 or 31's. I have heard that you can only use wider tires if you are also user taller tire. So I am just looking for some advice before i spend money on tires

You probably need a 15x8 rim.

what alec says may sound a bit odd at first... but here is why, a shorter tire on the narrow rim will increase its sidewall bulge/angle.... this will adversely effect the tire wear characteristics as well as life expectancy.... you can physically mount it on there..... but if going that wide with the stock rims, you should get a 31x10.5x15

How much back spacing would one need to get the tire to fit? Would there be any problems to expect when running a wider tire than stock?

I was thinking of changing my wheels to the "Rock Crawler Series 97" with 3.75 backspace. Would that be good?

Thanks again FROADER!

Wow, nice search.

The tires would fit fine on the stock wheels, but the 3.75 backspacing would be good too.

Thanks FROADER, I lost the money that was supposed to pay for my lift kit and 31's :(. I will have to settle for some kick a** looking tyres and no lift instead! Oh well, maybe santa....

BTW, I thought I saw your truck on sale!? Are you willing to trade for a Canadian spec 92 Bauer with only 148,000kms? :D

Thanks again!!!!!!

Pics Anyone!?

Does anyone have any picture of their none lifted explorers with 29" tyres? Hopefully a 29x10.5 TSL SX's!? I'd really love to see how it would look. Thanks guys!
