As everybody knows - fuel filler neck in second gens have huge problems with rust.
I have had them too, but unfortunately I've noticed it too late:
-5 broken fuel pumps
-big amount of sand in fuel tank
I saw small fuel drops during refueling....so I had to replace fuel filler neck I thought. But I didn't expect that it is so bad! [see the photo attached].
Quick research - fuel filler neck costs above 80$, is made from black steel and is available only in US [it will be in Poland in about a month + shipping costs]. So I found small mention here that somebody replaced fuel filler neck with one from Ford Focus diesel. I like it, Ford Focus is quite popular car in Poland, Explorer isn't.
I've bought fuel filler neck for about 8$, shortened it and welded necks and bought few fuel cap for 4$, stainless screws and nuts. New fuel filler neck is made from stainless steel, I hope this problem was solved once and for all!
Maybe it will be useful for somebody
