2nd generation console

I have a 2nd gen 1999 explorer, but the dude I bought it from took out the entire center console. Can I use a center console from any 2nd gen explorer?

yes, pretty sure. I think some of them had an optional instrument display at the front of the console below the HVAC controls. (not sure what year that was, might be 3rd gen)
But all the 2nd gen explorers have the same console

no, not all second generations had the same console, there was a Hi and Low series console. I've never seen the low series, its only on base and lower end explorers.

There are different style 2nd gen consoles, but they will all work in your truck.
