Well I am back with more transmission issues.

This time, Im not so sure its the valvebody. I replaced the seperater plate, EPC solenoid and updated the relief valve almost 1000 miles ago, so unless Ford's update is even more faulty then the old original spring dohicky, I just cant see the VB blowing again so soon.

On to my symptoms... Its not like my first VB blowout, at all. I have all gears all the time, but either get a delay or lose OD after awhile. My 2nd gear has flare and delay shifting to 3rd most of the time, but not all. The rest of the gears are fine.

2nd will go to around 2500-3000rpm before shifting into 3rd while lightfoot driving. My normal experience is it will do this when I floor it, not lightfoot drive it.

My OD will not engage untill either I floor it 80KMH+ or I go past 100KMH (Actually, it engages right at 100KMH.) And will slip itself back to 4th if I go under 100KMH.

After awhile of driving, especially through a city, the OD OFF light will flash and I will only lose OD gear. DRIVE will still go through gears 1-4 and R and manual 1 2 still engage. After restarting the vehicle I regain OD untill the OD OFF starts flashing again later on.

My first VB blowout, after the tranny warmed up I lost all gears and when my OD OFF started flashing the tranny would go into "limp mode" and lock into the limp gear. This time it happens even if the tranny is cold and it wont do its "limp mode" thing when OD OFF flashes - I will still shift through 1-4 just no OD.

My thoughts are the bands. I read loose/worn bands can cause delay in 2nd and OD I will try adjusting my bands and look at my sensors. If nothing then I guess Ive got a valvebody issue, which sucks because I no longer have access to a vehicle hoist.

Also, I just replaced my O2 sensors, which cured my CE light which has been on since I bought my eX. So the CE light hasnt been tripped for the tranny issues, just OD OFF.

Any thoughts are welcome, thanks.

KC, have you had the codes read? See what the codes are, then post back up.
PS: I have heard people before think that faulty torque converter lock-up=no OD...just a thought.

Might be able to get some codes read Tuesday. College is done and we are into exams and cleaning the shop - therefore I have no access to lifts anymore, tho I might be able to use the schools code reader.

If so then Ill post what the reader gave out on Tuesday.

I had to gas up earlier today, so on my way I watched the RPMs, shifts etc... Anyways, I kept the torque converter in mind this time. It feels as if the TC isnt locking/unlocking when it should. I know what a shift feels like and found it weird the tranny would "slip" itself back into 4th. But what if my TC is just unlocking itself when it shouldnt? Also, when OD was engaged fully I let my foot off the gas completely and my RPMs went down with the speed of my explorer, as if "engine braking". Normally the TC unlocks itself when I do this because OD isnt supposed to provide engine braking right?

So perhaps my TCC sensor? Or something that isnt engaging/disengaging my TC clutches properly.

P0732: Incorrect Gear 2 Ratio
P0735: Incorrect Gear 5 Ratio

IDK... Ill look around some more and do band adjustments. My last shot afterwards will be replacing all solenoids and seperater plate. After that, and it still has transmission issues then Im parking it. I really love my Explorer but its getting to be too much.

The overdrive servo works 2nd and 5th gears, sounds like a servo bore problem. There are kits to fix. . .or you might have a bad servo.

Seems easy enough. My worst fear right now is needing to drop the transmission, pretty much near impossible.

When I am able to get the garage back I will drop the pan, inspect the VB once more and the servos. Ill most likely replace the servos even if they look usable. 158xxx miles its about that time everything needs to be replaced...

Thanks jrford.
