I have a 2wd Sport. Can I use the components from a 4 door to do the 4wd converison, or can I only use the 2 door parts? I realize some of the parts (driveshaft, etc...) won't fit.

You can utilize all the parts from a 4 door cept the driveshafts (the front driveshaft might even be the same).

A big time saver would be to use only parts from your year (or at least your common year range) 98 - whatever.

Are you tossing the idea around or seriously considering? :D Good luck either way!

Yes, I am seriously considering it. It won't start for probably 2-3 years, but I figure the more time I spend planning, the easier it will go when I start. I'm planning on keeping this X as a "plaything" after I get another truck.

I figured the front was the same for Sports and 4 doors. It's just after the doors that things change. I was just planning on keeoing my eye out for a 99 4wd in the local yards that was most likely a rollover or some such accident where the drivetrain is still good.

I'm also going to swap in a nice V8. I was talking to my mechanic, and he suggested a 351 rather than a 302 from a v8 X or Stang. Hmmm. I like how he thinks. They do great stuff at his shop, so he'd be a great help.

This is all jsut stuff I'm kicking around now. I ahve a folder I started with all the things I read or hear, so I can have a quick reference when I do start.

So how does that sound? A 4wd SAS coilover supercharged 351 Sport. Sounds pretty good to me... :D

Sounds pretty dangerous! :D I think someone is selling a damaged '99 4WD on the site right now. Check the 4sale, trade, wanteds!

Yeah, I saw that, but I'm not quite ready to buy one yet (unless I happen to find that perfect one), mainly because I have nowhere to put it right now.

I'll probably wait till I get the replacement for the X. My wife and I were driving yesterday behind an F-350 dually. She commented that it was an awfully big truck. I said, "Yep, that's the one I'd like to get and put on a Banks kit and propane injection to make over 600 hp and 1000 lb/ft." (the fact that she knows what I'm saying is pretty impressive) Surprisingly she replies, "That would be pretty cool. OK."

At least then I'd have somehting to tow the wreck with.

the only thing youll be able to use is the t-case and tranny cause you cant use any of the front suspension (spindles, you arent anyways) but other than that everything should be the same you may wanna use the front driveshaft because it may be a little longer!

I might just use the drivetrain from another Sport then, just to keep things more simple. The tranny would havet o go as I'd do an engine swap at the same time and get a real tranny in there. I've had enough of the 5R55E in mine. I have a feeling it's about to go out again.

ANyway, this is all in the planning stages now. I'm still going to use this as my DD for 2 or 3 years.
