3.0 Yamaha into a 91 XL

Does anyone know any details about swapping a 89 SHO engine into a 91 XL 2 DR 2wd?

My son's SHO has a good engine and tranny and runs strong but my wife's 91 XL has got a lot of miles and we're getting rattles from the engine. The 89 SHO has had a couple of minor fender benders and is not worth repairing.

Does the 3.0 engine mate up to the standard AOD tranny?

Is there anything special I'd need to know to do this swap?

This swap doesnt sound very economical... A lot of custom fabrication would be needed

Sounds like there is completely too much in this. The SHO's V-6 was a front wheel drive motor. so it attaches to the tranny all strangely and stuff....not like a rear wheel drive vehicle. Seconly, the explorers don't have AOD's stock...I think. Third there is just way too much custom work with the computer and fuel systems.

Just a thought!

Isn't the SHO mounted tranverse ?
If so, then this would create more fabracation than it is worth.
Would be cheaper to install a 5.0.

GO 5.0!!!

trust me that 3.0 can move the 2100 lb SHO but would SUFFER in a 5k expo

think of the ****t gas mileage you would get flooring it to get it to 55 even

plus that would be such a headache

buy or trade that SHO for a newer f-150 and gut it take engine trans and t-case. sure there will be some fabbing there but way less than that 3.0!!!
