I have a 04 explorer with 3.73 gears and the differential is needing replaced, what years can I look for to find a replacement. Does it need to be from a v8 or can I use one from a v6?

Watch for units with 4 channel ABS, I can't really say if they have a tone ring inside. For example the 2005 MY has a plastic plug where the sensor is in earlier models, and might not have a tone ring. The tone rings were moved outboard if I understand correctly. Might make a difference might not.
