3 JL 10"s or 2 Kicker comp 12"s

Also if i run those 2 amps, i will need a distribution block, correct? Where can i pick one of those up for cheap, and will i need crossovers for the door speakers?

Sorry for all the questions but im eager to learn....

Im gonna build my box and have a friend help, i went to kicker and got the specs for the box it said min of 1 cu ft and max of 4.6 cu ft, so should i just go somewhere in between, like 2.3 or so for each sub. And by the way, i was told to build 1 box and then separate into 2 boxes and seal it up for the best sound. Also to fill it with poly fill insulation.

Re:

Yes you will. All you really need is to buy an amp kit from, this may be treason here, Wal-mart. Get a multi-channel amp kit and It will have everything you need, and then you can upgrade the wires as you please. You're newto this so get the kit and then buy some different wire if you think you need it.
I wouldnt recommend making your own box at this point, and 4.6 cubic foot box is HUGE. I will get a box from an internet website for less than 100$ and you will be set.

I dont believe in the wal-mart amp kits. Their wires inside are too thick, produce heat, and restrict power transfer. For almost the same price as wal-mart you can get a quality brand on ebay with fine wires inside the cables.

I know 4.6 seems big but it said 4.6 max for 1 sub...and i will be using 2, all I did was pick the number in the middle(2.3).

But hey what do you guys recommend for the doors, and are crossovers needed?

If you go with component speakers like the infinity kappas 50.5 they come with the crossover.

so would 112 be a good price to pay for a pair of those?

*edit* nvm, onlinecarstereo has em for 169, so i think im gonna get em...

anyone recommend against this decision?

-and also should i be buying 2 pairs for all 4 doors? or should i buy 2 of these and then like 2 6x9s

well i think i might go with the 5.1's, they seem better, but im wondering if its worth like 70 more bucks

-tough choice here....5.25 inches or 6.25 inches?

My preference is not to spend the money for components in the back. Just make sure that they match the front in brand and series. The back speakers are supposed to help as backup singers in a group....they help make the song more melodious but do not take center stage. I know that you can get the adapter for the 5.25 from crutchfield but I havent seen a 6.25 adapter.

so the 5.25's will be fine then, or is there that much advantage to go with the 6.25's?

Its a matter of opinion but I had 4" components in my last car with 75 watts rms going to them and they sounded better than any regular set of speakers. Components are worth the extra money

yea, down the road a bit i plan on adding a speaker amp to get the full usage out of those 100 watts rms. But correct me if im wrong stock size for exploer is 5 or 5 and a half right? If i wanted the 6.25s then i would need to make a new bracket to hold it eh?

The factory mounts for your vehicle are 6X8/5x7. You can get an adapter to make it a 5.25 speaker opening.

Since the size is only 6" in vertical direction you might have to trim some metal to get it to fit.

im having trouble finding the adapter on crutchfield....can i just make one?

-edit- i found the 6 x 8 to the 5 1/4, but i didnt see a 5 x 7 to 5 1/4.

yea i got the 6 x 8 to 5.25, but i cant find the 5 x 7 to 5.25

you dont need it...i edited my last post to explain

ok so just order 2 sets of the 6 x8s to 5.25s then right?

You got it. Post on here after your done to tell us how it sounds.
